Description- We worked in partners to create this artwork. First she talked about grid making with what jobs use grids. After she gave us a paper with a grid on it and we had to copy the design on the board onto our grid. We picked three colors out, one of our partners favorite, ours and a random one. We picked colors that matched sun. We also had three white papers. She had us fold all 6 pieces of paper in half, hot dog style. Then we put all three pieces of paper inside each other. On the top paper we marked with a ruler every inch. We then drew lines to connect the dots. We cut those strips in half (on the fold line). We had to connect our colored papers and white papers based off of our grids- we used tape and the white sheets to connect. We had them on a wood stick to hang up. Extension Activity- This would be something to teach with math when it comes to grids. Showing them different colors equal different numbers.

Earth Ocean

Image
Description: For this project we used construction paper- one for the background and one for our fish. We also could use others for background for our ocean scene. She started to go over about fish and the habitats they live in, etc. Half stencil fish was already cut out so we traced it to have a whole fish. I used blue as the background for water. To make the fish we had to fold the construction paper in half hotdog style. We took the fish stencil and traced our outline of the fish. Unfolding the paper so it showed the whole fish. To make the paper weaving in the middle of the fish we had to first fold our fish in half. We took our 2" construction and placed it just under the fins. Then we drew a line down from the stop line to where the fold of the fish is and made 7 lines. We cut lines and weaved the paper through. We picked two other scenes for the ocean to complete.  Extension activity- This would be good to have them write about on a PowerPoint and share different ...

Print Making

Image
Description- We drew an ocean scene on a piece of paper. We transferred it to Styrofoam. We laid our sheet on top of it then traced it. After that we went onto the Styrofoam and traced/drew what wasn't showing up. Coloring the ocean scene was next. I tried to avoid the lines so it made the drawings to pop more. After I transferred it to water color paper. We had to put water on it then use a paper towel to dry it, we used a roller to transfer it to the water paper.  Extension activity- This could be used to write compound words. The students could do all the same steps but have it be compound words instead

Basket Weaving Project

Image
Description: This project started about her talking about Native Americans and there use for baskets. Basket weaving was the idea for the project. After she talked about it we picked out colors that were commentary of each other. We folded one paper hamburger style. After, we drew one line to have it be the stop line. We then took a sheet of paper and made lines throughout the paper. Cutting was our next step to the stop line. Then we took the other sheets of paper and weaved them. We did under, over, etc for one then the next did over, under. When we were done we had to draw things about us and what we liked. I picked the colors yellow and blue. I then drew a cat and a tent.  Extension activity- having the students write a story about what they drew on there basket. This can give them an opportunity to write something they want to in language arts class.

mandala design- painting

Image
Description: We had to draw a mandala design. This started off with getting shown four different ways to paint. Dabbing, salt, wet, resist. She showed us it and then we tried. After that, we were asked to draw 8 different sections. It started with line horizontally, then vertically then two diagonal. After that we had scratch paper and had to draw two drew designs, the catch was to draw the same on every triangle. Picked which one we wanted then drew. After, we traced in sharpie. We had to use watercolors and paint, after painting had to make sure we used two. I used dabbing and wet as my techniques. Then after had to glue it on a piece of colored paper.  Extension activity: I would have this be designing a time in history design. Like a symbol that represents something and have them create the design or could have the students ask a family member there favorite design and have to do that next and give it to them, could be like a present around Christmas.

Cupcake Drawing

Image
Description: This was the lesson that I taught, I had the students watch a video about Wayne Thiebaud. His work is known for food. I had a PowerPoint that described his techniques vs what we would be doing. After the PowerPoint, there was a post assessment with picking designs and colors you liked. The project was three cupcakes. Started off with pencil, outlined in sharpie for all the designs. The materials that were used were colors, markers, and watercolor paint for coloring in the cupcakes. This was there choice on what colors to use. They used  a line in middle with yellow as in the sky and blue as the bottom half to pop out the cupcakes.  Extension Activity: I would have the students draw different items for a bakery, this could be an idea with a substitute or just to add on. I would have them share with the class there favorite dessert and why they picked to draw that one. I would also have them use different materials that they want to use.

Hidden Safari Art Project

Image
Description: This project started off learning about Henry Rousseau. He did a lot of jungle and animal artwork. For this project, we created red glasses that were going to help us see our animal. We picked our safari animal and had to draw it with a blue colored pencil with the upside down technique. After that we were told to draw shapes with warm colors. This will help block the blue (cool colors) unless you have those red glasses. After I was done drawing the shapes, I put on the glasses to see my animal which was an elephant. After we wrote three facts about our animals.  Extension Activity:  This could be used for math. Having a problem- write it out in the blue and then the students will have to solve the problem. Could be simple adding, subtracting, multiplying or dividing.

Van Gough Art

Image
Description: In class, we were introduced and talked about Vincent Van Gogh. We talked about his life and his artwork. Starry Night is one of his most famous art pieces. We created our own work like Van Gough. We created landscape out of tissue paper and then created a design in front of the paper. I created mountains with trees and snow. We used oil pastels to make our designs.  Extension Activity: I would have us during a geography lesson, the students will create a region and its features using the same materials we used. If they wanted to draw like a desert theme or a jungle theme. We would then write about our work and facts about that region.

Dot Day

Image
Description: This project was something we used to do a project with dots or since it was valentines day we could make a heart. We used coffee filters, markers, watercolor paint. We drew on our filters first with crayons, markers, sharpies and then went in with watercolor paints and with water.  Extension Activity: I would let the students pick something creative that represents something about them. They would get the filters from me and use the same techniques and materials we used. They could create something like favorite animal or food. We would hang them up in the hallway and write a description on why they picked that.

Elements and Principles of Design

Image
Description: This project included taking pictures of different elements and principles of design. I chose to take pictures of random items through out my house and outdoors. After we took the pictures we had to create a way to show them. I picked a PowerPoint.  Extension Activity: An extension activity would be having the students sharing there favorite pictures and writing why they picked that photo. This would have them be social and work on different skills like speaking. Another one would be having them pick a favorite out of a partners picture and why they like it.  This photo represents texture- Texture is the surface of an object which we sense through touch. This photo represents space-Space in a work of art means feeling or depth of the area.  This picture represents shape-two dimensions-height and width and are usually defined by lines               This picture represents repetition-  Repeating of an object or...
